耳の検査をしてもらった。電話ボックスのような狭い部屋に入り、ヘッドホンをつけて、高い音から低い音まで順に流され、聴こえたら手に持っているボタンのような部分を教えてください、といわれた。ふつうに聴くテストをしたたあと、耳のペコっと折りたたまれ、そこに小さな拳みたいなものを当てられ、骨伝導というのかな、骨を伝って音を聴くテストをしたのだけれど、左耳では高音が少し聴きづらかった。
あとで先生に聞いたら、左右両方とも、わずかに高音が聴きづらくなっているとのこと。今は全然、問題のない範囲だが、これがひどくなると、耳鳴りがしたり、難聴になったりするとのこと。ヘッドホンやイヤホンを使うのを控え、電話もなるべくなら控えたほうがいいらしい。電話も？ と思ったが、集中して聴くのがよくないらしい。部屋でオーディオセットから音楽を流すとか、そういうのは別にかまわないそうだ。イヤホンなどをして、じーっと集中して聴くのは、あまりよくないらしい。
iPodでイヤホンをして音楽を聴いたり、そういうのをやっていると、歳をとったとき、耳が聞こえにくくなるのが人より早いかもしれない、といわれた。これは個人差もあるだろうが、聴力をなるべく維持したいので、ありがたく耳を傾け、アドバイスに従おうと思った。聞きづらくなってからいわれるより、いま、忠告してもらったほうがずっといい。
